Q. The DVD won't work in my computer or in my DVD player!

A. Ever Upward is a computer based DVD only. It cannot work on your TV / DVD player. It also will not work in a computer CD-ROM drive. If it doesn't work in your computer, please check to see if you have a DVD player in your computer.

Q: I put the DVD into my computer, it launches my browser, but I cannot see some components.

A: You need to have the Flash plugin for your browser installed. Visit your browser's plugin page for a link to Adobe's Flash plugin. Internet Explorer | Firefox | Safari

Q: When I open the Search feature I receive a message that says that the PDF has been modified and the Index is out of date.

A: This message is automatically generated by Acrobat because when EverUpward.pdf was installed on your computer it received a new “modified” date. Just close the window and continue. You may choose to check the box that tells Windows not to remind you again.

Q: Acrobat locks up and/or crashes when I try to go between Canadian Alpine Journal volumes.

A: Ever Upward is a big package; give it some time to load properly before trying to navigate to different PDF files.

Q: The Search feature won't work!

A: Do you have Acrobat Reader 8 or 9 installed? The Search feature will not work as described with earlier versions. Acrobat Reader is a free download from Adobe. Visit: http://get.adobe.com/reader/

Also, the PDF viewing software, Preview, which is a default on many Macs for PDF files does not support the search feature either.

Q: Why do I need to download Ever Upward in order to use it?

A: You can view the Ever Upward package of PDFs from your computer's DVD drive, however it is a really large file and could slow your reviewing time down considerably. Also the indexed search feature will not work from the DVD drive.

Q: Is there an option to add future issues to Ever Upward?

A: Yes, we do plan to add subsequent CAJs to the Ever Upward collection. The 2009 CAJ has already been converted into the same digital format that the rest of the CAJs are in and it is a relatively simple procedure for us to add it to the collection and generate an updated Index file for searching. The question, however, is how to distribute it.  The current Ever Upward file is 657 MB and it will of course get larger with each addition. It is too large to email and probably too large to post on the website for people to download. So, at this time we are considering creating updated versions of Ever Upward every five years or so if there is demand for them.
