Best of Nepal - Trekking Camp

Dates & Price
October 6 - 24, 2009
Cost per person is $3500 (no GST)

The ultimate high-altitude experience for hikers and trekkers, this camp will take you to the heart of the biggest peaks in the world where giants like Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Pumori soar above you.

Starting in Nepal’s fascinating and bustling capital city of Kathmandu, we’ll spend the first day taking in the sites of this exciting city including such pleasers as a visit to the Monkey Temple and Durbar Square.

From Kathmandu we’ll fly into the Nepalese Himalaya’s famous Khumbu region, home of the awe-inspiring Mount Everest and intriguing Sherpa culture.  We’ll land in Lukla where  our trek will begin.  Keep your cameras handy – with spectacular views of beautiful mountain valleys, Sherpa villages and monasteries this could easily be the most beautiful and picturesque hike of your life.  This trek will also allow us time to acclimatize to the higher elevations as we make our way to Everest Basecamp.

The trek to basecamp and back will take two weeks with plenty of stops along the way to explore the area amid the highest peaks in the world, trekking and hiking to the summits of their lofty neighbours.  Hiking objectives will include Kala Patar (5545m), Gokyo Ri (5357m), and Chukung Ri (5565m).  Other sites along the way will include stops at the famous town of Namche Bazaar and Tengboche monastery.

Depending on the speed of the group, we plan to spend a couple of days around Everest Basecamp soaking up the excitement of expedition climbers as they embark on their quest for Everest’s Summit.  We’ll spend those days hiking around the area, taking in the panoramic views of the giant peaks in the Khumbu Valley.  If weather and time permit, we’ll return to Lukla via the scenic loop through Cho La Pass before flying back to Kathmandu.

Accommodation will be in comfortable and traditional Nepalese tea houses along the route and a comfortable hotel in downtown Kathmandu.

Level of Difficulty

Due to the high elevation and the distances traveled, this trip is meant for experienced hikers only.  Each day will see us hiking for 4 -6 hours with a 15 – 20lb pack.  Previous high-altitude experience would be beneficial, but not necessary since we will be acclimatizing slowly to the highest point of our trek – Everest Basecamp (5200m).  There will be no technical climbing on this trip so no climbing experience is necessary.
