This is the King of classic high-level ski tours in the world. Unparalleled scenery, old world charm, catered huts, lift-assisted starts, fabulous ski descents, and light packs contribute to this memory-making ski experience. Traveling the backbone of the European Alps, this tour is 80% glacier skiing through the hallowed ground of history books. Starting in the heart of the Mont Blanc area, we will balance high hut living with the hotwater conveniences of tiny alpine villages as we move toward the Matterhorn and Zermatt. This tour is high and wild and requires participants with strong fitness and skiing abilities.

Near Mexico City, two volcanoes form the 3rd and 7th highest peaks in North America. El Pico D’Orizaba is the highest Mexican volcano at 5610m (18,405’), and third is Itzaccihuatl at 5220m (17,126’). These peaks are picturesque classic volcanoes and are heavily glaciated on the upper cones. While acclimatizing and resting between trips, we will have time to explore some of the ancient and current cultural highlights of Mexico. This trip is an excellent choice for anyone wanting to gain some high altitude climbing experience with easy access and relatively non-technical summits. Participants should have some previous glacier travel experience and a good level of fitness.

Although the big summits around Paine and Fitzroy have a reputation for fearsome weather, there are a multitude of worthwhile objectives on less exposed peaks, and a lifetime of trekking and exploration to be done. After convening in Punta Arenas, Argentina, we will embark on an 8 day circuit of the Fitzroy group, which includes the storied Cerro Torre. Camping and staying in ‘refugios’, we will strike at mountaineering targets as suits our party. After a break in town, we will camp for another week in Parque Nacional Torres del Paine. Options will be open, with the possibility of trekking entirely around the Paine group if conditions permit, or moving a camp up onto the glaciers and trying our luck on some nearby peaks. Previous mountaineering experience is not required, but a good level of fitness and a big sense of adventure are!

Kluane National Park, located in the southwest corner of the Yukon, is part of the world's largest internationally protected park system. Numerous glaciers within the park form the world's largest non-polar icefield. Its interior mountain ranges, dominated by the Icefield Ranges of the St. Elias Mountains, are inaccessible except to experienced mountain climbers. From our base camp at 2820m (9250') on the Eclipse Glacier, ski mountaineering ascents of numerous snow and ice covered peaks are possible. Many of these peaks provide the opportunity for first ascents. Mounts Badham 3670m (12,038') and Donjek 3560m (11,677') will be a short distance from camp. Views of Canada’s highest mountains, Logan, Lucania, Steele, Walsh, and many more will fill the horizons.

A high camp is planned at the Mt. Steele/Mt. Walsh col in order to provide experienced participants with the opportunity to climb Mount Walsh 4507m (14,787') in a three day push from our base camp.

The many peaks surrounding our base camp will provide a “St. Elias experience” for intermediate level mountaineers. Downhill ski touring, winter camping and snow/ice mountaineering experience are essential skills required to fully enjoy this camp.

Join us in 2006 for a spectacular camp in an arctic setting!

The trip starts and ends in Whitehorse, Yukon.
