     Dates & Price
     August 15 - August 21, 2009
Cost per person is $2195 + GST

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the incomparable and inspirational Conrad Kain’s arrival in Canada , we are offering this unique step back in time.

For this one-of-a-kind camp we will be retracing some of his most notable first ascents, including the east ridge of Edith Cavell in Jasper, the Kain route on Mount Louis in Banff, and the Kain route on Bugaboo Spire in the Bugaboos.  From the list of more than 60 first ascents to Kain’s credit, these are the most classic routes that have been favourites to climbers for the past century.

To round out the experience, two evenings have been set aside for fireside chats about the life and times of Conrad Kain by two notable mountaineering historians – Chic Scott and Zac Robinson.

In 1909, Conrad Kain – the first professional guide ever hired by the Alpine Club of Canada -  set off a tidal wave of first ascents in the Canadian Rockies.  This is your chance to walk in the footsteps of a legend!

ACMG Mountain Guide Conrad Janzen

ACMG Assitant Alpine Guide - TBD

Conrad Janzen

Conrad Janzen – shown here sitting atop Bugaboo Spire - arrived in Canmore AB for a mountaineering course in 1994 and got completely hooked on all forms of mountain adventures. After completing a Kinesiology degree at the University of Calgary, he moved back to the mountains and began guiding, climbing and skiing full time.
Conrad feels fortunate that he has been able to explore many different places in North America as a result of this path - from a start leading trips on the West Coast Trail, to guiding canoeing in Minnesota and the North West Territories, to more recently guiding climbing and skiing trips throughout the mountain ranges of B.C., Alberta and up north into the St. Elias. Some highlights for him have been guiding more remote ski traverses, and a recent trip up Mt. Logan in the Yukon.
Conrad’s perfect world includes an endless winter, a whole bunch of maps and food, and a pair of skis - this would make him about as happy as you can imagine!
