Are men and women really that
different? Perhaps
a question better answered in a philosophy class. But there are
certain undeniable differences that affect how we, as women, operate
in a backcountry setting.
Designed and offered for women exclusively, this unique
climbing camp provides an opportunity for women to work on summer leading
skills and gain valuable mountaineering experience.
Daily activities will be organized and supervised by a female ACMG guide,
however participants will be given the opportunity to plan daily trips,
and to lead in the field according to their abilities. Participants will
be encouraged to participate in decision making in order to enhance the
learning experience.
Using the unparalleled Bugaboos Provincial
Park as a backdrop for this year’s camp, we’ll spend the week exploring peaks and glaciated
terrain as we look at all elements of mountaineering and how it relates
to women specifically. Evenings will be spent in the comforts of the
Alpine Club of Canada’s Kain Hut.
Level of Difficulty
This camp is designed for women with
some mountaineering experience. You must have a good
level of fitness carry a 16 – 18kg (35 – 40lb)
pack for several hours. Porters
will carry the majority of food to the hut, however participants
will be expected to share in the carrying of group gear while
on the week |

Lisa divides her time between
her toddling daughter, private guiding and working for Parks
Canada as a Mountain Safety Programs Specialist (mountain rescue
and avalanche forecaster) for Banff, Yoho, and Kootenay National
Parks. She has worked in these specialties for the past 15 years
and her work has taken her to Kluane, Auyuittuq, Glacier, Waterton,
Jasper, Banff, Yoho, and Kootenay National Parks. She has been
guiding for the past 10 years on her days off or vacation time
from Parks Canada. Lisa has done climbing/expedition trips to
Bolivia, Argentina, Mexico, Thailand, Spain, and several trips
to the States. Lisa likes the balance guiding provides to her
rescue work and likes to see guests/students having an enjoyable
time in the mountains. |
