The perfect August climbing trip - we will meet in Canmore, pack our
things and join our friends to carpool to south-central British Columbia
and a great week of rock climbing in the Valhalla Range.
After sleeping at the road head, we will walk in a half day to a beautiful
alpine cirque near Mulvey Lake. Porters will bring up the week's food
and camp equipment. Centrally located like this, we will be able to access
wonderful faces and ridgelines in a 340 degree amphitheatre of varied
rock, breaking into different groups each day depending on our interests
and levels of ambition.
There is good scrambling in the Valhallas,
short rock climbs, peaks easy and technical, exhilarating traverse
lines, and lots of options for all levels of commitment. Helen and
the rest of the staff will keep the program varied and exciting. Peaks
in the area include Nisleheim, Gladsheim, Asgard, and the much-sought-after
Gimli. While the south ridge of Gimli is not an option for this camp,
the west side might be an option depending on conditions.
Join us for a relaxed week of warm rock and alpine adventure you won't
soon forget.
Level of Difficulty
This camp is designed for those with
substantial mountaineering experience, solid rope-handling
skills, considerable experience traveling on glaciers, mixed
snow and rock, and exposed fifth-class terrain. You must
have an excellent level of fitness and be able to carry up
to a 22kg (50lb) pack for several hours. |

has competed in alpine freestyle events and been a Nordic ski instructor.
He is presently the Chair of the Alpine Club of Canada's Competition
Climbing Committee and head of the ACC’s Ski Mountaineering
Competition Committee, and is active with several Bow Valley climbers’ groups.
David has a post-graduate degree in Philosophy, and works as a
writer and sports bureaucrat. He has been a leader and camp manager
for The Alpine Club of Canada for more than 10 years, and spends
several weeks a season with the Club and our camps, climbing waterfall
ice, sport and alpine rock, and mountaineering generally. He’s
a big, manly guy, but he cooks okay, too. |
