The Columbia Icefield is home to some of the most spectacular scenery you will ever come across. The area is dotted with a consolidated group of the tallest mountains in the Rockies connected by expansive glaciers, all within a day trip from the Icefields Parkway. There is no better place to learn about and get solid mountaineering experience.
We’ll stay at the Beauty Creek Hostel, which will provide us with a comfortable home base in the evenings and easy access to the climbs in the mornings. After spending the first day learning and reviewing proper mountaineering and glacier travel techniques like crevasse rescue, we’ll set our sites on climbing peaks for the rest of the camp. Possible objectives will be Mount Athabasca (3491m/11,453ft), Wilcox, Nigel, Boundary, and A2. Bad-weather possibilities include the Dome Glacier, the Ancient Forest and Wilcox Pass.
This camp is in the very heart of the best climbing in the Rocky Mountains and is open to anyone who is looking to get started in mountaineering, refresh their skills, or people who just want to go climbing in this spectacular area.
