A mountaineer’s paradise lies in the corridor between the southern end of the Icefields Parkway and Lake Louise. The names of prestigious peaks roll off the tongue in an enviable list of lofty summit objectives. We’ll spend this week making our way through this paradise, strategically targeting the best the area has to offer mixing the giant with the esthetic.
The CAC in Lake Louise will be our home base for the first part of the trip with a shift near the end of the week up to the picturesque Abbot Hut to reposition ourselves for the final two days at Abbot Pass. The trip will start with an acclimatization scramble up Mount Temple (3543m/11,624ft). With our legs and lungs in synch, we’ll make attempts on Mounts Aberdeen, Haddo and Hector (3394m/11135ft), all from our base in Lake Louise. From Abbot Hut we’ll have the options of climbing Mount Victoria (3388m, 11115ft) and Lefroy (3423m/11230ft).
If you want to make a serious dent in your summit “tick list” this camp will deliver!
Level
of Difficulty
This camp is designed for climbers with intermediate mountaineering experience and a good level of fitness. Climbs will be alpine rock, snow and ice. The majority of the week will be based out of the CAC in Lake Louise so your days will be spent with a typical mountaineering pack. For the last two days you will need to carry your personal gear and a share of the group gear (including the food) on the 3-5 hour hike up to Abbot hut.

Growing up in Ontario, Brett started rock climbing at the age of 14, on the small escarpments surrounding the Ottawa area. This soon became the passion in his life and he realized that his goals would be better achieved in the bigger mountains of western Canada. Moving out to Canmore in 1997 and after many years of climbing, mountaineering and skiing, Brett soon realized that he also loved teaching people about the outdoors, as well as climb for himself.
Brett is now a fully certified UIAGM/IFMGA mountain guide teaching and guiding in the places he loves and showing people the unbelievable mountains he calls home.
Brett works as a heli-ski guide in the winter and guides rock climbing, mountaineering, and alpine climbing trips during the summer. He lives in Revelstoke, BC with his wife and daughter. |
