Butters Lake Ski Traverse

Dates & Price
April 9 (eve) - April 17, 2010
Cost per person is $2195 + GST

The ACC schedule wouldn’t be the same without a week-long ski traverse to challenge the more advanced skier. This winter we will be traversing the final segment of the coveted Bugaboos to Rogers Pass Traverse: Butters Lake to Rogers Pass. Over the course of the week we will be traveling approximately 50km plus some side trips to bag some summits and ski some slopes.

After flying into Butters Lake we will climb up through the Battle Range and onto the Duncan Neve. From here we will climb over the ridge on Sugarloaf and eventually gain the Grand Glacier. A big climb will gain the Deville neve which we will follow and descend via a couple of rappels down to the cozy Glacier Circle Cabin. After climbing out of Glacier Circle to the Illecillewaet glacier we will either traverse over Youngs Peak and descend the Asulkan or continue down the Illicillewaet. A food cache near the Kirkpatrick-Wheeler Col will help keep packs lighter for the first portion of the traverse.

This traverse will be spectacular, mountainous and challenging, and will provide the opportunity to climb some major Selkirk summits such as Mt. Butters, Mt. Sugarloaf, Grand Mountain, Mt. Wheeler, and Youngs Peak.

Several variations on the route are possible depending on conditions.

This camp is designed for those with substantial mountaineering experience, considerable experience traveling on glaciers and winter camping.
