Are men and women really that different?  Perhaps a question better answered in a philosophy class.  But there are certain undeniable differences that affect how we, as women, operate in a backcountry setting.

Designed and offered for women exclusively, this unique ski camp provides an opportunity for women to work on winter leading skills and gain ski mountaineering experience in an “all female” setting – all participants and staff will be female.

Daily activities will be organized and supervised by an ACMG guide, however participants will be given the opportunity to plan daily trips, and to lead in the field according to their abilities. Participants will be encouraged to participate in decision making in order to enhance the learning experience.

Using the unparalleled Wapta Icefield as a backdrop for this year’s camp, we’ll spend the week exploring peaks and glaciated terrain as we look at all elements of backcountry skiing and how it relates to women specifically. Evenings will be spent in the comforts of the Alpine Club’s Bow and Balfour huts.

Level of Difficulty

This camp is designed for women with some backcountry skiing experience. You must have a good level of fitness and the ability to ski the equivalent of blue/intermediate to black/advanced ski runs at downhill ski areas. Additionally, you must be able to ski with a 16 – 18kg (35 – 40lb) pack for several hours. Porters will carry the majority of food to the huts, however participants will be expected to share in the carrying of group gear while on the week.
