Join ACMG guide Rob Owens - multiple first ascensionist
and one of Canada’s best ice climbers - during the long and (usually)
warm winter days of prime-season February for a week of unforgettable
climbing! Rob is not only a guide, but also an instructor who is keen
on helping participants increase their personal skill level so they can
go after harder routes with more confidence.
We will begin from a comfortable
base at the remote Mosquito Creek hostel on the Banff-Jasper Parkway.
This is the very heart of Ice Climbing in Canada. Many of the world’s
most famous frozen waterfalls are within a short drive from the hostel,
including climbs around Field, Lake Louise, Murchison Falls, the David
Thompson area, The Weeping Wall, and Polar Circus, just to name a few.
After three days of climbing on the northern end of the Canadian Rockies,
our group will head south to Canmore and spend another three days based
out of the comforts of the ACC Clubhouse. From here we can access routes
in the Bow Valley, the Field area, Kananaskis Country, and the Ghost
River Valley. The selection and range of climbing on offer in this region
is virtually endless.
Our aim for this program will be to enjoy friendship
and camaraderie while we pursue the best climbs of the Canadian Rockies.
There will be opportunities every day for increasing knowledge of technical
skills, improving movement over ice, and practicing safe winter mountain
travel. We look forward to another great camp!

While there are plenty of teaching opportunities

least basic rope handling skills and some experience climbing
waterfall ice. Group gear will be divided among the climbers
so everyone should have the fitness required to carry an
ice climbing pack on the approaches. |
