Peru Climbing Adventure

Dates & Price
June 5 - 25, 2012
Cost per person TBD

Join us for almost three weeks of spectacular climbing, trekking and enjoying the culture of the Peruvian Andes.  The Llanganuco and Santa Cruz valleys arguably host the most scenic mountain panoramas in the world.  A five-day acclimatization trek will tantalize us with a smorgasbord of stunning 6000 metre peaks dressed in sensational snow flutings and chaotic glaciers. After a couple of days of R&R in Huaraz, we will head for the Ishinka Valley where possible peaks for us to sink our crampons into include Ishinka (5530m/18250ft), Urus (5495m/18023ft), and the Andean Giants: Pisco Oeste (18,867ft/5752m), Toclaraju (6034m/19791ft) and Nevado Chopicalqui  (20,939ft/6384m) via their straightforward snow and glacier routes.  This expedition is aimed at intermediate level mountaineers who would like to experience climbing at altitude.

Level of Difficulty

Previous high altitude climbing experience is not required to participate in this camp.  This is a good opportunity to experience high altitude mountaineering with easy access and relatively non-technical summits. However, climbing days will be demanding, with long days at elevations between 4000m and 6500m. Ascents are mostly on snow and ice with many easy and moderate climbs.  Glacier travel and snow climbing experience are beneficial. A good level of fitness is needed, as you will be climbing for 5-8 hours a day with a 9-12 kg (20-25 lb) pack over snow, ice and rock.

Conrad arrived in Canmore AB for a mountaineering course in 1994 and got completely hooked on all forms of mountain adventures. After completing a Kinesiology degree at the University of Calgary, he moved back to the mountains and began guiding, climbing and skiing full time. Conrad feels fortunate that he has been able to explore many different places in North America as a result of this path.  Conrad’s perfect world includes an endless winter, and a pair of skis!  Conrad is based out of Banff where he lives with his wife Coralee.

Christina Brodribb has been volunteering with the Rocky Mountain Section since 2003. She has led several Rocky Mountain section trips and has been a camp manager for various ACC National club trips. Since 2007, Christina has also been an amateur leader at the General Mountaineering Camp. Christina's enthusiasm and love of the outdoors is genuine and infectious!
