    About Us

The Calgary section is one of 18 regional sections that make up the Alpine Club of Canada, Canada's national mountaineering and climbing organization. Our members like to climb cliffs, frozen waterfalls and mountains, back-country ski, scramble, hike and generally enjoy the more vertical aspects of nature.

Here are some of the reasons why you might want to join the Calgary Section:

    • Participate in summer and winter club activities, ranging from rock-climbing days at local crags to mountaineering expeditions and summer and section camps. In the winter, section trips explore the many ice-climbing and back-country ski areas within a day’s drive of Calgary.

    • Meet other climbers and skiers at regular monthly meetings, evenings at a local climbing wall or crag, and many other social gatherings on the section's annual calendar.

    • Learn and hone your mountaineering craft through participation in professionally-instructed summer courses and winter courses (at discounted rates) sponsored by the section and on section trips led by volunteer trip co-ordinators.

    • Enjoy our monthly newsletter, The Chinook and get our weekly email newsletter The Breeze.

As a member of the Calgary section, you'll automatically become a member of the national club, The Alpine Club of Canada.

Here are some of the benefits of your national membership:

    • Participation in the National Club’s ski and climbing camps in western Canada

    • The National Club's quarterly newsletter, The Gazette

    • The annual Canadian Alpine Journal, one of the world's best alpine journals, at preferential rates

    • Members' rates at the club's hostel, The Canadian Alpine Centre, in Lake Louise, Alberta

    • UIAA affiliation

    • Liability insurance for club events

    • Advance booking privileges and members' rates at the National Club's alpine hut system in the Canadian Rockies, including the Canmore Clubhouse.
