Glacier National Park

The 100th Annual General Meeting of the Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) will be held at the Glacier Park Lodge, Rogers Pass at 1:00 pm Pacific Time on Saturday July 15, 2006.

In addition to attending the general business of the club there will be a series of talks given by distinguished members of the ACC.

William Lowell Putnam
Author of “The Great Glacier and Its’ House” will talk about the first trip that he made to the area in 1942 when he traveled from New England with the Harvard Mountaineering Club. Bill Putnam is an honorary member of the Alpine Club of Canada, the American Alpine Club, the Appalachian Mountain Club and the UIAA

Bruce Fraser
Bruce joined the ACC in 1953 and was a participant at the 1956 General Mountaineering Camp. This camp celebrated the 50th anniversary of the ACC. Bruce will give a slideshow of the highlights of that camp. Bruce attended 19 general mountaineering camps (GMC) over the next five decades and was an amateur guide at many of them. He was awarded a silver rope during the 1964 GMC at the French Military Group.
As well as Calgary Section Chairman, Bruce was the ACC’s Ski Camp Chairman and ran three early ski camps at Rogers Pass, Yoho and the Tonquin.

Dr. Henry Vaux Jr.
Dr. Vaux is the grandson of William Vaux who undertook the first studies of the Illecillewaet (Great) Glacier in 1899. Dr. Vaux is a world-renowned water economist who has undertaken a photographic study of the glacier that replicates those of his grandfathers. His talk will be on the change in the glaciations of the area.

All members and friends of the Alpine Club of Canada are invited to attend this historic meeting.
