Many of the ACC Sections will be hosting their own Centennial Events.

Vancouver Island Section:

  • Annual Banquet: guest speaker Nancy Hansen. March 3
  • Saanich Wildflower brochure: Brochure(funded by Saanich) and hike for public service outreach in joint celebration of Saanich Municipality's and ACC's Centennials. April 22.
  • The Golden Hinde**: An eight day strenuous and somewhat technical traverse, with a goal to climb the Golden Hinde, highest peak on Vancouver Island. 8 participants and 2 leaders. Self catered, self equipped. We also particularly welcome ACC members from across the country. July 23-30
  • Centennial Week in the Mountains** around the Elk River Valley, July 22-30. ACC members from across Canada are also welcome on several of these trips, in addition to the 8 day Traverse.
  • Mount Arrowsmith: Initiative to achieve park status for the Mount Arrowsmith massif.  Visit: www.mountarrowsmith.org

Vancouver Section:

  • Tantalus Range Climbing Camp**: Climbing in the Tantalus Range (near Squamish), from the Vancouver Section’s Lake Lovelywater Hut (range of intermediate mountaineering objectives) and Jim Haberl Hut (expert mountaineering level). Dedication of Jim Haberl Hut. Vancouver Section invites participants from all Sections. August 5-12 (maximum 20 participants).
  • Section Centennial Dinner at Grouse Mountain

Prince George Section, with new Smithers chapter of PG Section:

  • Climbing Mt. Ida in Kakwa Provincial Park to place summit register in memory of George Evanoff, significant contributor to PG mountaineering community (d. 2004). Planned jointly with new Smithers area members. July/Aug (weather dependent)
  • Climb of Howson Peak (recreation of the climb outlined in CAJ volume 41 1958)

Okanagan Section:

  • Rogers Pass Centennial celebration weekend** Wine and cheese on Friday night. Sat-Sun: hikes and activities. Debut DVD on OK Section stewardship and mountain culture since 1996. Invited: ACC National, Parks Canada, other ACC Sections. Sept. 8-10.

Jasper-Hinton Section:

  • Mt. Mummery & Mt. Laussedat climbs from the Mummery Glacier: centennial climbs of 2 peaks climbed in 1906 (Mt. Mummery, Mt. Laussedat— included A.O. Wheeler). Section Members camp. July 9-14
  • Wates Gibson Camp, Tonquin Valley** Hut based camp at Wates Gibson, Tonquin Valley; includes interpretation (flowers and fauna), photography; with guide. Non-Section Members welcome. Aug. 5-11

  • Centennial Camps

Edmonton Section:

  • Publication of special coloured edition of The Breeze newsletter featuring best stories and photos from past editions and photo contests.
  • Centennial Section Climbing Camps at Mount Assiniboine**: Two one-week camps at Mount Assiniboine (setting offers a diversity of climbs, scrambles, hikes, and flora and fauna viewing opportunities); members sharing various areas of expertise related to the mountains (geology, mountaineering, history, biology). Open to other Sections after Edmonton S. members. Aug. 13 – 20 and Aug. 20-27

  • ACC Spring 2006 Board Meeting and Gala Dinner: Hosting Spring 2006 ACC Board meeting and gala dinner. The Winnipeg Centennial Celebration

St. Boniface Section:

  • Install outdoor floodlights for St. Boniface Section’s outdoor iceclimbing tower. Tower is widely used by the outdoor community in Winnipeg; lighting will enable increased use of facility. December 2005.

Toronto Section:

  • Toronto Section Centennial Camp: Little Yoho Valley**: at Stanley Mitchell Hut. Objectives include President, Vice-President, Mt. McArthur. Camp open to other Section Members. July 23-29
  • Bon Echo Climbing Camp: 100th ACC Celebration & 50th Anniversary of Climbing at Bon Echo - Camp, Bon Echo Hut, Bon Echo Provincial Park. Limited space available, 3 days of activities and meals. Cost- TBA. Reservations accepted until August 1, 2006. Section’s annual ox roast will be incorporated into this celebration; Dave Brown will be presenting a slide show on Bon Echo and the new Bon Echo Book official launching. September 2 to 4
  • A Guide to Rock Climbs at Bon Echo (expanded 4th ed.), celebrating 50th anniversary of climbing at Bon Echo. Large format, hardbound, with photographs, history, anecdotes; to be distributed to a number of ACC related partners
  • Centennial Section Camp at Stanley Mitchell Hut: July 23 - 29
  • Distribution of a Centennial Edition of A Guide to Rock Climbs at Bon Echo
  • History Project: Discovering the early history of the Toronto Section, 1906 through 1932
  • Whyte Museum: completing the Section's archives 1956 - 2006

Ottawa Section:

  • Ottawa Section Centennial Dinner**: enjoy stories from guest speaker Barry Blanchard, Canadian Award-Winning Mountain Guide and Alpinist at the Centennial Dinner on February 24, 2006.
  • Bon Echo Family Summer Rock Climbing Camp**: Week-long (family friendly, low cost) rock-climbing camp at Bon Echo in partnership with the Toronto Section. Open to Sections across the country. July 10 - 14.
  • Rogers Pass Climbing Camp**: July 29- August 5.

Outaouais Section:

  • Photo contest of summits: 100 ans de leadership et d'aventures en montagne.
    Members have been challenged to take the official Centennial Banner to a new summit and capture a photo of themselves with it on the summit. The winning photos will be compiled into a poster and/or calender to be distributed to local sports stores.

Montreal Section:

  • Lake O’Hara Camp: Section camp at Elizabeth Parker Hut at Lake O'Hara. The Lake O'Hara setting offers access to some of the finest classic hikes and mountaineering routes in the Rockies. Open to Montreal Section members. August 12-18
  • Mountain Landscape painting exhibit: paintings shown by three Section mountaineer artists, paintings shown by three Section mountaineer artists, representing most of mountain ranges visited by members since Section foundation. In conjunction with Section AGM. Nov. 28 – Dec. 13.
