Bon Echo Hut, Toronto Section |
||||||||
The hut is located approximately 300 km north east of Toronto on the east side of Mazinaw Lake, a mile north of the Mazinaw Rock and Bon Echo Provincial Park. The hut is a single-room wooden structure with a fireplace and kitchen equipped with propane stoves and a large dining table. There is a sauna located near the lake. The hut is not used for sleeping, but is a day hut and cook shelter for those staying at the campsites immediately adjacent to the hut. The drive to the public dock takes approximately three hours from Toronto and one and a half hours from Ottawa. The hut can be reached by hiking overland, but this would take an entire day. Boating to the hut is much more convenient. To reach the public dock, travel north on Highway 41, turn right onto Mazinaw Heights road (the first right turn after passing the main gate for Bon Echo Provincial Park) and follow it to the dock. Climbers wishing to use the hut can arrange for the boat to meet them at the dock by calling the custodian ahead of time. Pick-up times are Friday at 10:30 pm and Saturday at 10:30 am. For more information on the Bon Echo climbing area and the hut, visit http://www.climbers.org/bonecho/bonecho.html. Contact the ACC national office to obtain the name and phone number of the custodian of the hut or visit http://www.climbers.org/bonecho/custodians.html. |
