Situated beneath the impressive Southwest Face of Mt. Colin in Jasper National Park, this hut is used primarily as a base for climbers attempting one of several routes which exist on Colin or the neighbouring CR6. Scrambling and hiking opportunities in this tiny valley are somewhat limited, but you’ll definitely enjoy the peace and solitude the area offers.

It is reached via the historic Overlander Trail which parallels the Athabasca River for several kilometres before turning up the Garonne Creek drainage and following a steep but decent trail on the north side of the creek. Most parties take 5-7 hours for the hike – this time can be shortened somewhat by using a mountain bike for the first 7 km. You should be capable of dealing with tricky scrambling terrain en route as well as significant exposure. Parties may wish to use a rope for protection especially when crossing the cliff bands along Garonne Creek.

Solid limestone, sunny exposure and moderate grades make this an excellent destination for competent rock climbers.
