Membership options

A membership in the Alpine Club of Canada consists of a basic membership with regional section affiliation and optional membership options.

Costs

Membership costs depend on what type of membership you select. The most straight-forward membership with no options and no section affiliation costs about $36.00 a year for an adult. The average section affiliation is about $15.00 a year, bringing the total to $51.00 a year for a no-frills membership. At the top end, an Adult membership with the average section affiliation and the combined options will cost about $88.00 a year - about the same cost as a new climbing helmet!

Membership is easily customized to your situation and the activities that interest you. To determine which options to choose, follow the following steps:

Step 1: Choose the membership category that best suits you:

  • Adult - One individual aged 20 and over
  • Family - Up to 2 adults plus children 19 and under living at the same address
  • Youth - 19 and under

Step 2: If you wish to participate in Section activities (most of which are free or break-even to members) you must be a member of that Section. Costs of Section membership vary from Section to Section and you can be a member of as many Sections as you want. Section benefits include newsletters, organized trips by skilled volunteer coordinators, training programs, events and socials.

If you do not want to participate in Section activities, simply select the "unaffiliated option".

Competition Climbing*

* The Competition Climbing Section (Competition D'Escalade Canada or CEC) is the governing body for competition climbing in Canada. The CEC is supported by the ACC and is run by volunteers from across the country. The CEC comprises the Open and Youth Divisions for UIAA Climbing-format competition and is the only sanctioning body for Canada recognized by the UIAA's International Council for Competition Climbing (ICC).
Note: Online membership forms are not currently available for Competition Climbing; CEC Membership information can be found at on the CEC website.

Step 3: Several membership options are available to you, all of which provide great savings for you.

  • The Canadian Alpine Journal option: $26.00

The CAJ, published annually since 1907, features articles and photographs describing climbing achievements and issues of interest to Canadian and international alpinists everywhere. The CAJ option gives you this great publication at 20% off the retail price. The CAJ is mailed to CAJ subscribers in July each year automatically. Subscribe now to reserve your copy! Note: New or renewal memberships valid on or before June 30 will receive the current year and those starting July 1 or after recieve the following year's CAJ.

  • Huts Upgrade option: $24.00/individual or $48.00/family

The Huts option entitles you to discounted rates and one year advance booking privileges at the 23 national ACC huts in Alberta and British Columbia. This option pays for itself after as little as 2 nights in a hut since the Hut option rate is $10/per night off the regular price per night. Members without the Huts option may book 60 days in advance and pay regular rates.

The Huts option is not needed for member rates at the Canmore Clubhouse, the Canadian Alpine Centre in Lake Louise, or at section accommodation facilities.

  • Combined option: $43.50/individual or $65.00/family

The Combined option consists of the CAJ and Huts options at the lowest possible cost.

Note: Two year memberships can only upgrade for two years.
