New Executive Director Selected

Lawrence White of Canmore, Alberta has been selected as the Alpine Club of Canada's new Executive Director. Lawrence will replace Bruce Keith, who is retiring after having served in the role for the past 12 years.

Lawrence has worked full time at the ACC national office for five years. He has gained in-depth knowledge of the operations of the Club through his roles as the Mountain Adventures Coordinator, Facilities Administration Manager and currently as the Director of Facilities.

Lawrence first came to the Club as a practicum student from Capilano College in North Vancouver, where he was studying Tourism Management. The ACC quickly recognized Lawrence's potential, and invited him back to work full time as soon as the right job became available.

Lawrence's partner, Corina Strim, moved from Vancouver with Lawrence. She also relocated her highly successful business of teaching music to children and adults, to the delight of the Canmore community.

Lawrence is bilingual (English and French), and is very passionate about the Alpine Club of Canada. In addition to his tireless work, he has spent significant amounts of time volunteering in many areas of the Club. President Cam Roe stated "We have just finished celebrating our centennial, and Lawrence will bring a high level of commitment and energy to the Executive Director position as we begin our second century."

Bruce Keith has served as the ACC's Executive Director for almost 12 years. Long time Executive Committee member Peter Muir wrote in his recent quarterly report that "Bruce has been an incredible asset to the Club. Under his guidance, the Club has matured into a sophisticated organization well set to move onto its potential. There is no question that Bruce is well respected and admired by all who have had the pleasure of dealing with him."

Bruce and Lawrence will be working together over the next few weeks to manage the transition before Bruce officially steps down on May 6. Bruce and his wife Nel plan to stay in Canmore.
