Catalogue of The Mountaineer and The Artist Centennial Art Project
This beautifully designed book documents The Mountaineer and The Artist Centennial project which brought artists and mountaineers together as they were at the first ACC camp at Yoho Lake in 1906 and culminated in an exhibition at the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies in Banff, AB. Thirteen mountaineers were paired with 13 artists, who work in a variety of mediums; each pair went out to explore the mountaineer’s favourite alpine place. The artist then created an outstanding piece of artwork celebrating the mountaineer’s special place. Each work of art provides a tangible record of the special connection between the people and the mountain landscape.
Read the humourous and insightful trip stories written from the perspective of both the mountaineers and the artists, and view full colour photos of the artwork and black & white portraits of the pairs by acclaimed photographer Craig Richards.
