Alberta Sections

There are five sections that make up the Alberta Sections (Calgary, Central Alberta, Edmonton, Jasper / Hinton, and Rocky Mountain). They are the fortunate recipients of an annual Alberta Government grant. Each year the Alberta Sections board of directors meet at their AGM to determine the distribution of the funds received from the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation (ASRPWF).

Each Section in Alberta is allocated a portion of the funds and reports back to the Board of Directors (a representatives from each section) on their funded projects. For most sections, a large portion of their funds are used for leadership training. Funds may also be allocated toward volunteer recognition, newsletters, environmental projects and other section activities as indicated by their business plan. Funds are also allocated for special projects like prizes for the Banff Mountain Festival awards:

  • Phyllis and Don Munday Award is the grand prize for the Banff Mountain Book Festival
  • The award for the Best Film on Climbing

Through the initiatives sponsored by the Alberta Sections, their members are able to realize not only section development but also to meet the criteria set by the Alberta Government’s generous ASRPWF grant.
