The
Alpine Club of Canada's Library occupies 600 cubic feet with
some 3500 volumes. Books in the Library range from an historic
1600s-era leather bound volume to history text to contemporary
guidebooks. After being housed at the Whyte Museum of the Canadian
Rockies in Banff for the last four decades, this coming September
the Library will be boxed up and put into storage to await its
next home. The Mountain Culture Committee had been seeking a
suitable library or museum to house the collection; however it
has proven impossible to find a location with enough space to
accept our Library on a loan basis, with the Club maintaining
ownership. For background information, please read the Spring
2010 Gazette articles (linked below in PDF format):

The club must now decide whether to keep the Library or liquidate
it. If it is kept, there will be important logistical questions
to answer. Before making such big decisions, we are asking you,
our membership, for your opinions. Please take 5-10 minutes to
complete the survey below.
