Let your creative juices flow on this Artists Retreat to the spectular Lake O'Hara region, we'll take care of the rest!
The Lake O'Hara region in the Canadian Rockies has inspired artists for over a hundred years: from Group of Seven member James Edward Hervey to countless amateur artists, its hanging valleys, pristine alpine lakes, wildflowers, and spectacular mountains invite visitors to caputure their experience through art and photography. This new self-guided camp provides you with the tools to do just that. The small group of 6 people will be accompanied by an artist-in-residence and a cook. Improve your painting skills with daily sessions by artist Patti Dyment. The art sessions will be general, geared towards tips on plein air painting and sketching, perspective, composition, and the unique challenges and rewards of capturing mountain landscapes. The rest of the day, you're free to explore the trails of Lake O'Hara; paint, sketch, or draw; or just relax and soak in the peace of this beautiful location.
Tasty and nutritious group meals will be created in the rustic kitchen at the Elizabeth Parker hut by a camp cook. The trails of Lake O'Hara are well-signed and well-maintained, and a variety of hikes of different difficulties (from very easy to strenuous) are possible. A hiking guide is not included in the camp but an ACC camp manager will be on hand to provide familiarity with the area and to facilitate the choosing and navigating of hiking objectives. We suggest that participants travel in groups and carry bear spray to minimize the chance of animal encounters. You will be sharing the Elizabeth Parker Hut with other visitors.
