Is this Camp For Me?

This camp is designed for people with at least moderate backcountry skiing experience. You must have a good level of fitness and be comfortable skiing the equivalent of blue/intermediate and black/advanced runs at downhill ski areas. Additionally, you must be able to ski while carrying a 22 – 27kg (50-60lb) pack for several hours. Participants will be expected to share in carrying group gear/food and their own lunch while on the camp. Previous winter camping skills will be handy, but not essential, as the guide and manager will coach and teach. If you have never camped in the winter but would like to learn how, this might be the camp for you.

Food, Accommodation and Guiding

All food will be provided on the camp. There will be a mix of lightweight, dehydrated, but nutritious meals as well as snacks, fruit and vegetables to keep you properly fuelled on your adventure.

Accommodation for this camp will be in the form of premium Mountain Hardwear tents provided by the Club.

Our ACMG certified ski guides will ensure your journey across the traverse is both safe and enjoyable. Our guides will be welcome to answering questions about the region as well as everything from ski technique to gear. The maximum ratio of guides and experienced ACC amateur leaders to participants will be 5:1 to ensure participants can travel at a pace which is right for them and have the chance to ask questions.

  • “The entire trip was a great experience. I am very impressed with the ACC hut system and the guides were excellent!”
  • “The Camp was extremely rewarding and enjoyable.”
  • “Five bluebird days and then two whiteout days, i.e. the full experience!”
  • “… great skiing every day… Seven days were perfect to explore the Wapta…”

Your Guides

Doug Latimer

Doug has 20 years of guiding experience behind him as an ACMG ski guide and an ACMG apprentice rock guide. As well as his private guiding he has spent a number of years working for the UoC where he taught a range of instructional programs in avalanche training, crevasse rescue and backcountry ski and ski mountaineering. He also somehow finds time to run a multimedia production company! In 2019, we are excited to announce Doug will be joining us as our on-staff winter guide; the perfect guy to take care of our Intro To, avalanche safety and other ski courses.
