Wapta Traverse 2018

Fully-guided, hut-based trip of a lifetime across one of the great glacial expanses in the Rockies

This traverse follows the classic Wapta itinerary, from north to south. The traverse starts at Peyto Lake, ascending to Peyto Hut before making its way across the two icefields, climbing peaks and skiing powder along the way. Hut stops include Peyto, Bow, Balfour and Scott Duncan huts, before descending to the highway near West Louise Lodge.

Specific ski-mountaineering objectives include Mounts Rhondda (3015 m), Mt Thompson (3084 m), Mt. Hable (3073 m), St. Nicholas (2822 m), Mt. Olive (3130 m), Mt. Gordon (3203 m), Lilliput (2908) and Mt. Balfour (3270 m).

Explore a timeless area

Evenings will be spent enjoying great food, socializing in cozy hut surroundings and resetting for the next day’s skiing.

Everyone on your camp will travel across the icefields together, but there will also be a great deal of flexibility in the itinerary. The camp can be many different things to different people: participants can learn the basics of winter alpine travel, bag winter summits, do their first ski traverse, or just hunt powder.

We run the Wapta traverse every year, and it consistently fills up early. Register soon to avoid potential disappointment!
