Reverend George B. Kinney

In 1909 the Reverend George B. Kinney, a founding member of the ACC,
claimed to have, along with the outfitter Curly Philips, climbed Mt
Robson. The veracity of this claim has not been proven, and in all
probability cannot be proven. We can, however, recognize that their
climb on Robson was a remarkable accomplishment for that period in
Canadian mountaineering. The 2013 centennial celebration of the first
proven ascent of Mt. Robson is a fitting occasion to honor George B.
Kinney for his contributions to the ACC and Canadian mountaineering.
George Kinney was awarded the Alpine Club of Canada’s President’s Award in 2012.
