The Hut Experience

Staying in a backcountry hut is a shared, rustic experience. Sleeping, kitchen and living areas are communal. Guests area expected to bring their own sleeping bags, food and personal items.

All of our huts are user-maintained, meaning that the custodial work of keeping the hut clean, chopping firewood and shovelling snow is done by the guests. The ACC provides major service and renovations to all of our huts each year to ensure they are in good repair.

There are no transition days between bookings. Guests are responsible to sanitize before and after use of the huts.

Download our hut cleaning and sanitation guidelines here.

The Wendy Thompson hut is located in the Marriott Basin, north of Whistler, B.C. It is approximately a 1 hour drive from Whistler to the trailhead, then a 2 – 3 hour hike or ski in. This location provides extensive ski-touring opportunities and there are also a number of peaks in the vicinity.

The hut is a two-storey gothic arch design that accommodates 16 people in the upper sleeping loft with an additional 4 spaces reserved for custodians. The hut has wood heat, a large kitchen with four sinks and three food prep stations, solar lighting on both levels, USB chargers and and expanded common area. Guests are required to bring their own cooking stoves and fuel. Mattresses are provided for sleeping.
